About Us
There is a vast difference between training and education, which directly correlates to performance. Training often relates to physical skills, while education is the WHY behind everything. The why is often not explained or thought about in the process of training.
Humility is a staple of TRI DET, and we will show you what pitfalls to avoid through our own experiences. But failure is not bad; failure is what creates growth, and we should not fear failure; we should thrive on it.
We help CREATe DECISION MAKERS
Our top pillar for success and the reason TRI DET exists is to teach the “Why” and to help build the best “Decision makers” we can. Decision-making and crisis decision-making requires an understanding of concepts that can guide you to success and mitigate loss. I have spent my career dealing with life-or-death problems, and the same principles we use daily can help you in all aspects of your personal life and professional success.

The other pillars are Equipment and then Tactics, Training, and Policies/ Procedures, or as we call them, “TTP’s”. We will help you with the right equipment and make you proficient with your tools. We can teach you tactics and help guide your policy and procedures to make you well-rounded. But it is all for not if you cannot decide when to utilize your equipment or TTP’s.

About Jon

During my tenure, I was fortunate to work with and be mentored by some brilliant minds in my industry, which guided me to create TRI DET Solutions Group. I aim to help as many people as possible in my line of work. I quickly realized that many of the skills I spent years developing transcend my profession and can positively impact countless others. We specialize in various physical skill sets to help keep you safe, but we are also well-versed in the “Why” behind it all. I have spent my entire career working in small to large teams. There is an art to teamwork, and we have seen the concepts that work and, more importantly, do not work.

law enforcement career

I began my career in law enforcement in 1993 with the City of Palm Springs Police Department as a Community Service Officer. Shortly after that, Orange County Sheriff’s Department hired me, where I completed the basic academy and worked in the Men’s Central Jail facility. In 1996 I made a lateral transfer to the City of Riverside, where I worked as a patrol officer for over two years.

In 1998 I made a lateral transfer to Palm Springs as a police officer, where I continue to serve. As a police officer, I worked patrol, as a canine handler, and as a detective assigned to a violent crime and gang task force. During this time, I held the auxiliary duties as a use of force instructor and a less lethal munitions instructor. I was also fortunate to present for numerous years at the department’s Community Police Academy. I was appointed to the SWAT team, where I held various responsibilities.

In 2009, I was promoted to sergeant, where I worked patrol and supervised the Property Crimes Unit. I also supervised the use of force unit, the canine unit, and the department’s firearms training range. I spent several years on the Critical Incident Investigation Team, where I handled complex administrative investigations, commonly referred to as “Internal Affairs” investigations. For 16 years, I was a member of SWAT, where I held various positions, with four years as the Team Leader. In 2018, seeing a need to address the public venues in Palm Springs better, I successfully launched the Designated Marksman program for SWAT and, in turn, to PSPD officers as an auxiliary assignment. This unit bridges the gap between the patrol rifle and a police sniper.

My passion for learning and training has led me to graduate from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the first-ever Strategic Leadership Program through CATO (California Association of Tactical Officers). I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management. My experience led me to teach various law enforcement and tactical concepts across the United States. I continue to volunteer my time with CATO, serving on the Board of Directors and assisting by conducting After Action Reviews on critical incidents and reviews and analyses of tactical teams across California.
